Animal Sculptures

These amazing animal sculptures were created two years ago during an “Art and Animals” camp at Humane Rescue Alliance. The artists ranged from 5th-8th grade. I really enjoyed not only making art with students but spending time with the animals at the shelter as well!

The armatures were constructed using 16 gauge armature wire, aluminum foil, and masking tape. We then used paperclay to sculpt the details. I love using paperclay since it air dries, is easy to use, and doesn’t shrink! The fur and hair was added using a metal feather wire texture tool. If you don’t already have these in your classroom I highly recommend it! It is great for scoring as well.
